Yellow Daal - Lentils
Ingredients
- Masoor Lentils
- Cooking Oil
- Salt
- Turmeric powder
- Chili powder
- Whole Cumin or one small sliced onion
Yellow Daal (Lentils) can be eaten with either rice or bread, or even by itself like soap.
- Take two cups of Daal, and wash it thoroughly in a pot, drain the water after washing.
- Add six cups of water, and let it soak for half an hour.
- Put the pot on stove at mark 8 and cover it.
- After five minutes remove the cover
- Lower the heat to mark 4.
- Remove the boiled bubbles
- Add:
- Salt = Two tea spoons.
- Turmeric = One full tea spoon.
- Chili powder = Half tea spoon.
- Stir and cover the pot while slightly opened to avoid boiling over.
- Cook for 25 minutes, while stirring slowly every few minutes.
- Prepare "Bhagaar" with some cooking oil and half a spoon of Cumin(zeera) or one small sliced onion and pour it in the pot and fry for a few minutes.
- Stir the Daal first and pour the Bhagar, wipe the left over bhagar with a paper towel into the Daal.
- Remove the pot from the stove.
